5 Things you should know when staining

It's important that you know how to stain because you don't want what you're staining to look a mess.

1. Stain with the grain - you want to do this because if you don't, cross staining will make the product's grain look less visible and there will be cross streaks instead of a smooth look

2. Always stir, never shake - shaking will add unwanted bubbles to the product

3. Sanding is important - sanding before you stain a project will ensure that your work looks even and often bumps and nicks will absorb more stain making it look more obvious.

4. All woods don't take stain the same way - Veneer and MDF take stains differently.

5. white stain instead of brushing - you should wipe on stain instead of brushing it on because you may get lap marks from brushing more stain over dry stain. brushing is also a slow method of applying stain. So not only you may get lap marks, you're also wasting your time, and who has time to waste ??
